Students at the Instituto de Empresa campus in Madrid (MM31/Velázquez, Serrano 99-101) and Segovia, will be able to follow classes indistinctly from the classrooms themselves or from the outdoor spaces thanks to the deployment of wifi network to be carried out by Ikusi. A coverage that Ikusi had already been taking care of, but so far only in indoor spaces, which is a boost from the communications infrastructure to new models of teaching and learning.

Irish Rail has chosen, in an international tender, the Ikusi proposal to renew the passenger information system of the 17 trains (68 cars) that compose the EMU 8500/8510/8520 series of the Japanese manufacturer Tokyu Car.

The project, which will last approximately a year and a half, will allow Irish Rail to update a major part of its DART fleet (Dublin Area Rapid Transit), providing cars with new capabilities that will allow the customization of messages, notices, advertising, etc. in a fully automated way, in addition to preparing it for future improvements.

The DART fleet is Irish Rail's most recognisable and high profile brand and covers the main commuter lines in Dublin and along its coast from Malahide and Howth, in the North to Greystones and Wicklow in the South.

Ikusi's contractual relationship with Irish Rail began in 2007 with the supply of the information system, public address, diagnosis, seat reservation, CCTV and train-ground communications for the MKIV passenger fleet. Since then, successive improvements and technology updates have been carried out in conjunction with a long term maintenance contract to ensure high performance of these systems. The maintenance contract has recently been extended for a further 2 years, a further testament to Ikusi's performance and strong customer support

Ikusi, new contract with Irish Rail

Ikusi is going to carry out a project to incorporate two new functionalities to the CCTV system implemented by Ikusi itself in 2009 in 9 train units of the 600 series of the Bilbao Metro: access to on-board recordings and remote image extraction.

The access to the recordings on board and the downloading of images will be carried out remotely via WIFI from the PC application located in the depots themselves, without the need for the technical staff to carry out this operation by accessing the train itself, as has been the case up to now.

On Monday 31 August, Alejandro Ormazabal, Vice President of Velatia, shared this industrial and technological company’s experience and view of digital technology-driven COVID-19 pandemic management. In a speech lasting nearly half an hour, Ormazabal emphasised “the great advantage” that ICTs offer public institutions, the private sector and the general public when it comes to dealing with a worldwide situation as exceptional as the one that we are currently living through.

In the words of Velatia’s Vice President, “we have experienced the duality of working as an essential sector in the electrification and digital transformation of our customers. There have been no shortages of water, electricity, communications or food, and we have been able to work remotely using collaborative tools, which would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Technology is exponential and the only way to deal with an exponential pandemic; along with other European companies we need to lead a resilient reconstruction based on digitalisation and sustainability”.

The seminar, which took place at the Magdalena Palace in Santander and acted as a prelude to AMETIC’s 34th Digital Economy and Telecommunications Conference, to be held on 2-4 September, also served to highlight the various problems that society is facing from the health and economic point of view. In this regard, Alejandro Ormazabal stressed that “the next national government budget should continue to invest in digitalisation, beyond telecommunications infrastructure”, given that “investing in the digital transformation of businesses, and thus making them more competitive, is fundamental”.

Alejandro Ormazabal insisted that “our companies have been part of the solution”. An example of this is the work done by Ikusi. “In terms of digitalisation, we have encountered very different situations. Customers who needed to implement the whole telework, user service and cybersecurity environment as quickly as possible,” he added.

In addition to his business role in the private sector, Alejandro Ormazabal is Chairman of the Electronics Industry Area at AMETIC, and so part of his speech outlined how this organisation is facing up to a future conditioned by the impact of COVID-19 on our society. “We are committed to following the EU’s lead in moving towards technological sovereignty. We must work towards a scenario in which reliable data is EU owned. This will be essential for creating the small and medium-size businesses we are losing at the moment,” he said.

Ikusi is collaborating with a leading Mexican university with multiple campuses in the Republic, to strengthen the security of its buildings, laboratories and warehouses. After conducting a risk analysis, Ikusi has proposed to this private higher education institution the deployment of a fire detection system, reliable, scalable and with great experience in this type of buildings.

The solution has been designed in accordance with the international NFPA standard for this type of requirement with equipment and solutions from the Honeywell brand, one of Ikusi's main partners in this field. 

In a first phase, the fire detection system will be installed in 12 of the 18 buildings of the university.

This new contract reinforces the technological partner relationship that Ikusi has with the educational sector, with which it has carried out several collaborations to improve the security of the campuses with advanced video surveillance systems in a comprehensive manner.

A Fire Detection System for a Higher Education Institution in Mexico

Ikusi has been selected for the supply, installation and maintenance of the facial recognition solution in branches and buildings of an important global bank with a strong presence in Mexico.

The solution, which contemplates the integration and analysis with the current infrastructure of cameras of the entity and the realization of white and black lists to delimit the functionality of the system, will perform the facial analysis of certain users and employees to allow or deny access to the bank's buildings.

In an initial phase, the implementation will be carried out in 80 sites throughout the country, as well as its integration in the Main Control Center to delimit actions from the Operations Center of the banking institution to the branches and buildings.

It is important to mention that this project is framed in a contract of accompaniment as technological partners in physical security for a minimum of 3 years.

Security services for the banking sector

Last April came the confirmation that Ikusi had been the company chosen to carry out one of the largest and most important contracts of the federal government of Mexico: to provide the Managed Services of Information and Communications Security 2 (SASIC-2) of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) of Mexico for three years.

 
To understand the scope of the project, it must be considered that the SAT is the essential governmental institution in controlling the entry and exit of merchandise from the country, as well as in the collection of federal taxes and a regulatory entity of the Mexican economy for its growth and progress.

 
In the same way, this contract is a frame of reference for the rest of the federal government administrations and is of great visibility and impact on the established digital transformation agenda.

 
This milestone means that Ikusi will provide institutional security by integrating a complete amalgam of technologies to keep the SAT computing assets available, confidential and intact, ranging from the implementation, protection and management of its communication networks, computer protection of 35 thousand desktops users and critical applications, continuous evaluation of computer risk posture, to the provision of consultancy in evaluations of third-party companies that are candidates for electronic invoicing, digital forensics ... All this accompanied by a 24x7x365 continuous security operations service, provided by a staff of Ikusi experts made up of more than 100 professionals ready to respond to incidents and mitigate cyber attacks, whose risk, if perpetrated, represents not only impacts to the national economy but also to the political and social environment of the country.

Contract marks a milestone

Ener Telecom, a company in the telecommunications sector in Mexico, with plans to expand to Central and North America, has chosen Ikusi for the design, implementation and deployment of the IP - MPLS network that will make it a provider of Internet services and MPLS transport (standard for transmitting data under different labels and thus improve Internet workflow) in Mexico.

This project will allow Ener Telecom to deploy a high technology and capacity network, one of the main pillars of its business, as it will provide services to its customers.

Ener Telecom will implement this high capacity, modern and reliable network to serve the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico in a first stage. A first deployment in this new high potential client, which has important synergies with economic, social and educational groups that require highly reliable telecommunications services for the development of their activities and that will participate in telecommunications projects of the current Federal Government of the Mexican Republic.

Ikusi has renewed the contract with the UTE maintainer of the Tram of Zaragoza, in which Acciona Construcción and Matinsa have an interest. This infrastructure began operating in 2011 and Ikusi has maintained a close commercial relationship with it since it deployed the ticketing systems, as part of an alliance that also implemented the passenger information, people counting and operating aid systems.

Among the new features of the system implemented by Ikusi is a contactless card recharging and issuing system. The system allows passengers to travel with the tram's own card and with the Integrated Citizens' Card of Zaragoza. All of this, with the complexity of integrating a tram that runs through one of the most monumental cities in Spain.

Ikusi renews the maintenance contract for the Zaragoza Tram

CILSA, the company that manages the LAZ Port of Barcelona (Logistics Activities Zone), has just awarded Ikusi a framework contract for the supply of materials and components required to carry out corrective maintenance on the access controls of the LAZ Port, located in the Port of Barcelona.

This is not the first time that the port infrastructure has relied on Ikusi, which, in addition to carrying out other maintenance service activities for the LAZ Port, has developed an integration project for the Port of Barcelona to control access by heavy vehicles in an efficient manner, without interrupting or delaying the normal functioning of the infrastructure, and making information on access by these vehicles available to the various agents (police, operations, customs, etc.).

This project of port integration, framed in the concept of "intelligent port", has allowed that the access control to the port area is carried out in an agile way, at the same time that there is information in real time of all the accesses to the port, and it is detected if some not authorized vehicle is trying to access to the facilities. It also offers the possibility to consult the information obtained in an orderly manner to the infrastructure managers and to make calculations of the transit time of the trucks, origin-destination matrixes, statistics, allowing the generation of real indicators of the port operation that will serve to improve the processes.

A maintenance project for LAZ Port Barcelona

Ikusi continues to collaborate with OMA (Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte) to support the business continuity and operations of the Mexican airport group in the complex situation generated by the COVID-19 health crisis.
