Renovation of passenger information systems

Earlier this year, Irish Rail published the international tender notice for the renewal of the passenger information system for the 17 trains (68 cars) that make up the EMU 8500 / 8510 / 8520 series from the Japanese manufacturer Tokyu Car. These are electric units named DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit), which cover the main commuter lines in Dublin and run along its coast from Malahide and Howth in the north to Greystones and Wicklow in the south.

The Challenge

The project, with an approximate duration of 1 year and a half, has as its objective the renovation of the passenger information system. It includes the design of the system, the necessary equipment (interior and exterior panels, cabin monitor, public address system, route editor, remote access, necessary SW, etc.) and its integration with the existing technology, together with its installation.

The solution

This project will allow Irish Rail to upgrade its most representative fleet, providing the cars with new capabilities that will allow the personalization of announcements, messages, advertising, etc. on the routes in a fully automated way.

Ikusi’s contractual relationship with Irish Rail began in 2007 with the supply of the information, public address, diagnostics, seat reservation and train-ground communications system for the Mark IV passenger fleet. Since then, successive improvements and required upgrades have been carried out in parallel with the maintenance service. The latter, recently renewed for the next two years.
